5 Questions Every CEO Should Be Able to Answer About AI Today

You don’t need to be a technology expert to lead a company in the age of artificial intelligence. But you do need to know how to ask the right questions.

Having supported strategic transformation processes for companies across the region, we’ve identified five questions that separate leaders who are navigating this moment with clarity — from those waiting for someone else to explain what to do.

1. Where in my business can AI generate the greatest impact?

Not everywhere. Not all at once. The most common trap is trying to implement AI on multiple fronts simultaneously and seeing no concrete results anywhere.

Leaders who move forward start by identifying one or two critical processes — where time, cost, or precision are strategic levers — and focus their energy and resources there.

2. Is my data in shape to support an AI implementation?

Artificial intelligence is only as good as the information that feeds it. And in most companies across the region, data is scattered, outdated, or simply not structured to be used.

Before evaluating tools, a CEO should ask: do we have the right data, in the right place, accessible to the right people?

3. Does my leadership team understand enough to make informed decisions?

It’s not about everyone becoming a technical expert. It’s about the leaders making business decisions understanding what AI can and can’t do — so they neither overestimate its capabilities nor underestimate its potential.

Digital transformation that doesn’t put the leadership team at its center doesn’t transform anything.

4. How are we going to manage change across people and processes?

Technology is the easy part. Adoption is the hard part.

AI implementations that fail don’t usually fail for technical reasons — they fail because processes weren’t redesigned, because the team wasn’t prepared, or because no one was made responsible for the tool actually being used.

A CEO should have a clear answer to this question before approving any investment in technology.

5. How are we going to measure whether this is working?

Without clear metrics, every AI implementation becomes an expense that’s hard to justify and a project that’s hard to scale.

Which KPIs are we going to move? On what timeline? Who’s accountable for the results? These questions need to be answered at the start — not at the end.

If, as a CEO, you can answer these five questions with clarity, your company is in a better position than most to move forward with artificial intelligence strategically.

If any of them raise more doubts than certainties, that’s a signal of where to start.
